Tackling Wipe Out Hill Solo - Moab, UT
Share
I did this trail by myself at the end of July and it was a blast! This trial is right off the main road and you could miss the trailhead if you're not careful. From the very beginning of the trail you see some amazing views. The trail is also very sandy and smooth. Soon the sand turns to rock slabs that slow your pace down a little bit. The trails switched back and forth between rock slabs and sand. I would say there is more sand than rocks tho. It's really fun to be able to pick up some speed in the sandy sections. In fact, I was able to get over 30mph, which is very fast for my Jeep. About half way through the trail you come to the optional obstacle, Wipe Out Hill. There is a large, sandy area at the base which is great for large groups. This obstacle is rated a 7 on the difficulty scale and for good reason. There are two ways up Wipe Out Hill. Since I was riding solo I went to the right which seemed like the easier route. It was still no walk in the park. But I stayed on the throttle and was fully locked. My Gladiator went up like a champ! I love having the longer wheel base on obstacles like this because I dont have to worry about rolling backwards. If I had been riding with a group I would have done the other way up the hill but I wanted to be smart. I didnt wanna risk having an issue with no one to help me out. Once you finish Wipe Out Hill you're back to the main trail. There is one rocky climb, but it's still not too difficult. There are some more rock slabs and sandy sections again as you ride closer and closer to the amazing Red Rock Mountain cliff! These views are so amazing and it's great getting so close to them. Overall I loved this trail because I was able to get up some speed in my Jeep and do one tough obstacle. The Obstacle is optional which is great too, so not everyone has to do it.
